Tinnitus is a heard and experienced as noise in the ears. It can occur in only one ear or in both of them. Tinnitus is explained as an irritating sound which resembles whistling, buzzing, sounds that resembles human voices, clicking, ticking etc. It can occur form time to time, but it can also be constant. When it is constant it means that a serious distress has occurred, and the intensity of it can change just with the movement of the head, or the shoulder, jaw, eye. Most people who have this condition have some kind of hearing disability. The specific type of tinnitus called pulsatile tinnitus is characterized by one hearing the sounds of one’s own pulse or muscle contractions, which is typically a result of sounds that have been created from the movement of muscles near to one’s ear, changes within the canal of one’s ear or issues related to blood flow of the neck or face.

There are several causes for tinnitus. There are subjective and objective tinnitus. The causes for the subjective tinnitus include external ear infection, acoustic shock, loud noise or music, middle ear effusion, superior canal dehiscence, scull fracture, closed head injury, whiplash injury, giant cell arteritis etc. It can also be a psychiatric disorders such as depression or anxiety. Objective tinnitus is a condition within the ear. It can arise from muscle spasms around the middle ear.
