The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 Public Law 101-336, prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability by public entities. Senator Tom Harkin was the author of the bill, and when he came to the stage to have a speech, the first part of it was done in sign language as well, for his brother to understand. The bill was signed in 1990 by president George H.W.bush. It is based on, and similar to the Civil Right Act of 1964 which made discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality etc illegal. However, unlike this act, The ADA demands that emplyees with disabilities get some accommodations which are reasonable on their workplace. The Americans with Disabilities include both mental and physical condition. It does not have the be permanent or hard to be a disability. Conditions that are usually seen as disabilities are: deafness, blindness, some form of intellectual disability, missing limbs or other problems with mobility which requires wheelchairs; cerebral palsy, diabetes, epilepsy, cancer, autism, post-traumatic stress disorders etc. There are also some condition which are excluded from the term disability, to prevent any case of abuse. These are: kleptomania, pedophilia, exhibitionism etc. It can easily be abused, because someone could, for example, steel things and blame it on kleptomania. Therefore one can easily get away with stealing.
